cactus Pictures
Finding good cacti to photograph is easier in dry climates
such as New Mexico and Arizona. Arizona is probably
the most interesting because everyone is familiar with the
giant Saguaro from movies and pictures.
The Sonoran desert, where is where Saguaro grow, never freezes. It
gets very dry, but not that cold and that permits species
to thrive there which can't handle freezing.
Some of the desert species have also developed unique interdependencies
with specialized insects and depend on them for polination.
The population of Arizona is growing fast so deserts areas
are being developed rapidly. This destroys habitat
and displaces many species.
Planning to take good cacti pictures is partly a matter
of following the weather reports. Many cacti are
more influenced by rainfall than temperature. Buggy
Whip cactus for example, leaf out after rainfall and then
drop the leaves as soon as it gets dry again.
Walking Rain Gallery
This website displays only a few of our collection of cactus
pictures. At Walking Rain Gallery we have more, as
well as many pictures of other subjects. Clicking
links on this site will take you to the cactus category
of Walking
Rain Gallery. Once
there you can see all of our cactus pictures and order
whatever pictures and/or products you would like. We
invite you to look around and see what we have in other categories
while you are there.
About us and our cactus pictures
We enjoy photography and use the income from sales of our
pictures and products to finance more travel and photography. However,
we find the rights management conditions required by stock
photo companies unreasonable.
Our copyright and digital rights management is very simple:
you can do anything you want with these images, including
using them for commercial products, except claim
you have a copyright to the original image. We retain
the right to use the images ourselves in any way we please. Fair
enough?
We have included images on the website which are not
large enough to print a 5" x
7" at
300 DPI. The download for those is free. We think
that is a good way to let customers test our shopping cart
and enjoy pictures which are to small for demanding uses.
Techniques & Technology I got my first camera (a Nikkormat) in 1965 and have been
taking pictures ever since. We took slides for many
years and then converted to film. We finally made the
move to digital and are still in the conversion process. This
and related sites are being built by converting our huge
collection of negatives to digital, editing them with Photoshop,
and building websites based on the pictures and our experiences
taking them. It's a lot of work so it will be a while
before these sites can be considered a finished project. We
think there is a lot to enjoy in the meantime through. |
